“We must help the child to act for himself, will for himself, think for himself; this is the art of those who aspire to serve the spirit.”
- Dr. Maria Montessori (Education for a New World, p. 69)
In 2011 we started with a vision for a school that focuses on the whole child, where physical, social, emotional and cognitive development could be nurtured collectively, in keeping with Montessori's holistic approach to education. House on the Hill is the realization of that vision, and we have carefully assembled a team who share the same values and priorities in caring for and guiding children.
Co-Founder and Manager
Wu Jing is a graduate of Peking University School of International Relations. With hobbies that lean towards creative pursuits such as calligraphy and photography, it is no wonder that Jing's belief in the power of play is what drives her dedication to Montessori. She has a special ability to bond with children of all ages and loves to see the light in their eyes as they learn through play.
Co-Founder and Board Director
Oliver is German and grew up in the U.K. His work in Finance has taken him around the world, where he immersed himself in many cultures. Oli is active in many philanthropic pursuits in the community, including co-founding and chairing an arts charity and spearheading nearly SGD 5million in fundraising over the years. He believes strongly that the values of global citizenship are crucial in helping children grow into adults who can contribute to bettering our world.
Marilyn is a graduate of National University of Singapore and holds an International Montessori Diploma from London Montessori Centre. She shares the same passion of the co-founders and is driven to build a team to raise the standards in early childhood education. She played a large role in transforming the House on the Hill dream to a reality. She is well-travelled and possesses nearly 20 years of experience in pre-School education including 13 years as Centre Leader.
Catherine has previous experience running her own school along with 17 years in Early Education. With a Bachelor of Arts in English (Phonetics) and Sociology, her expertise is a valuable asset to our portfolio. Catherine's passion for children is only rivalled by her passion for dance.
Teachers and staff members are all hand-picked to play an integral role in the team that makes House on the Hill a leading Montessori early childhood educator in Singapore.
In an industry that sees a lot of competition and high attrition, House on the Hill has very low turnover, which demonstrates the strength of loyalty we have built within our team. As a result, House on the Hill can be counted on as a stable, happy environment staffed by people who love what they do. We are proud to employ such highly-qualified, warm, dedicated, innovative and passionate people and we are honoured to work together to ensure the best possible experience for each and every child.
As an employer, we provide not only an environment that nurtures our young students but also their teachers as well. Further study is encouraged as well as professional training, career coaching and personal development opportunities. We believe our team should share in the benefits of their hard work and therefore we provide attractive performance pay. We supply private medical insurance so employees can safeguard their Medisave, offer halal meals on site for free and subsidize fees at our pre-School for teachers with young ones so they can be close to their children.
