Our Montessori Programs
At House on the Hill, we stay true to the values and educational excellence of the Montessori method. We believe in immersing the child in an open and stimulating environment with a curriculum of experiential learning. This allows each child to develop life-long skills for their futures successes, at their own pace.
Our specially- trained Montessori educators help to ensure our curriculum instils strong language and mathematical skills, preparing each child for their next step in either local or international schools. House on the Hill is one of a few Montessori pre-schools with individualised curriculum, vertical – learning, and 3-hour work cycle classes. School days are individually tailored and are made up of a combination of Montessori work, Mandarin class, creative sessions and fun with nature.

Our programmes are split into the following groups:
Montessori for Infants / Nido
2-17 months
In Maria Montessori’s native Italian, Nido means nest. Like a nest it is a warm, safe and natural environment for our babies. In the Nido, we focus on one- to- one engagement with each infant, in a carefully designed space, created especially for infant developmental stages. The safe and open environment encourages movement and free exploration, key at this very important developmental phase. We collaborate with parents for individualized, professional and nurturing care for each infant.
*Available only at Balmoral
Playgroup
1.5 – 2.5 years
Playgroup children start from 18 months onwards. It is many children’s first introduction to school, and there is so much to learn and explore! At 18 months children are developmentally ready for two areas of Montessori curriculum: practical life and sensorial development. Playgroup children get 30 minutes of Montessori work time each day, learning skills that will empower them to care for themselves and their environment. The rest of their time is split between Mandarin class and lots of story time, time with nature, crafts and play!
Pre-Nursery
2.5 – 3 years
Pre-Nursery class is a stepping stone from our youngest class to the older, mixed age class. In this group, children around 2.5 to 3.5 years of age are introduced to more Montessori subjects including language and mathematics; they have longer, uninterrupted periods of work; and they work on the social and emotional skills they will need to thrive in a mixed age setting. With all our programmes we observe each child’s readiness and progress them dependent on their needs, not necessarily their age.
Nursery – Kindergarten
3- 6 years
A hallmark of a true Montessori school is the vertical learning structure that mixes children of different ages and abilities in the same classroom. Vertical learning is made possible with an individualized curriculum for each child. In our classrooms younger children look to their older peers for social and academic support, and older children learn leadership and responsibility. In the mixed-age class we focus on Language, Mathematics, Sensorial, Practical Life, and Culture.
