Holistic and Authentic Mandarin Learning
Mandarin is a vital part of the House on the Hill curriculum. We strive to instill a love of the language for each child through engaging and stimulating lessons that will help them achieve a native level of fluency by the time they graduate.
Our Method Leads To
We have a team of passionate, experienced teachers guide our students to form an emotional connection with Mandarin. This is essential for long-term language learning, as it helps students to stay motivated and engaged. We create joyful, learning experiences, children form an interest and appreciation of Chinese culture. We also encourage children to express their love of the language freely which helps them to feel comfortable and confident in their abilities.
One of the best ways to learn Mandarin is by making it fun! Our teachers approach lessons with a sense of adventure, using animation, and lots of body movement to keep students engaged. We know that young children learn best when they are having fun, so we make sure that our lessons are interactive and engaging.
CHILDREN BECOME
Our primary focus is to provide the right environment for students to build a solid foundation in their listening, speaking, reading and writing Mandarin. We use a variety of immersive educational tools, such as games, activities, and cultural experiences, to keep lessons fun and engaging. Students learn to converse naturally and comfortably with each other using a broad vocabulary and we encourage students to develop healthy reading and writing habits.
Cultural Experiences
We believe that cultural understanding and context are essential for learning a language well. This is why we infuse our lessons with Chinese culture through celebrating festivals, singing songs, learning to write with ink brushwork, telling stories and more. Drama, games, rhymes, chants, songs, music and movement all help to deepen our students’ understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
Optional 天天向上 Programme
We offer an elective afternoon Mandarin immersion programme called 天天向上 (Tian Tian Xiang Shang) for additional Mandarin learning experiences. This jam-packed, extremely fun half-day program fully immerses the children in the Chinese environment, with lots more time for cultural experiences and practice using the language. We have received many positive reviews from the most important people: the children themselves! They love this program, and our parents are impressed at how quickly their children begin to use the language naturally, independently and with confidence.
Home Connection
We know that real-life experiences help to bring language to life. Our teachers provide personalised advice and encouragement on how to extend learning at home and spark interest in the language, tailored to each student’s personality and interests. This further encourages our students to continue learning Mandarin outside of school hours.
